244 Wilston Road, Grange

This vintage house may be a bit of clanger but it will still likely cost 10 times more at auction that even the finest bottle of Penfolds Grange.

And whoever buys it will need a stiff drink, as the very honest listing notes it needs a lot of work.

Located on 244 Wilston Rd, the “much-loved” property at Grange will go to auction with the Public Trustee on June 17.

On a 405sq m block, property records show it was bought by its owner for $27,250 in 1980.

PropTrack data shows the median house value in the inner-city suburb is now $1.08 million, up 11.3 per cent in 12 months.

The rundown Queenslander has two bedrooms, one bathroom and room for one car.

“A basic bathroom with shower/toilet sits between two bedrooms while outside there is a deck needing restoration or expansion overlooking the fully fenced backyard,” the listing says.

“The under croft of the chamferboard and corrugated iron roofed house allows single car accommodation with room for storage, hot water system and laundry facilities.”

But it has a sunroom that leads into the lounge which has ornate cornices and solid timber floors.

The kitchen is “simple” with a gas stove/oven and separate dining room.

Listing pictures show retro finishes, including lino, faux wood cabinetry and panelling, wallpaper and dated carpet.

But there are some traditional features through the house.

“The Grange is a popular northern Brisbane suburb but obviously (this property) needs love and work to renovate and live in or conduct your due diligence on the slim chance you can gain local council approval to rejuvenate the lot with a new residence,” the very honest listing says.

And in case you were wondering, a bottle of first vintage Penfolds Grange sold for $150,000 sold at an auction to a wine collector in Sydney last year.

A year earlier, another sought-after bottle of the fine wine sold for $157,624 at auction.
