You’ve heard of toilets in the kitchen and showers in the living room.

But what about bathrooms with shower facilities that could attract serious attention from polygamous couples or those who enjoy communal bathing?

Sounds too weird to be true? Think again – one character cottage at 85 Alexandra St, Prospect, is offering all that and more.

Listed for sale for the first time in 17 years, the three-bedroom home comes with a unique addition, namely a bathroom that boasts not one but two bathtubs, as well as a separate shower, all in one space.

The unique set up has resulted in a number of raised eyebrows from buyers but selling agent Marina Ormsby, of Fox Real Estate, is the first to admit that the reason behind the unique set up is anyone’s guess.

“I don’t know why it’s like it is,” she said.

“It’s just huge (the bathroom) and maybe the owner just really liked a spa and didn’t want to get rid of the other one, I’m not sure.

“It could have had a couple of different owners over time who added things along the way but it’s certainly different.”

The Prospect home is not the first to make national headlines due to its unique bathroom set up.

In June last year, a cosy North Adelaide apartment left real estate enthusiasts in a state of disbelief after a rental ad showed a glass shower smack bang in the middle of the kitchen.

The bizarre rental echoed a Sydney studio listing in 2020 that had similar features, offering tenants a loo with a view.

Ms Ormsby said the layout had caused some laughs but buyers were undeterred.

She said around 30 groups had inspected the home since its launch to the market two weeks ago.

She said buyer interest had predominantly come from young couples and families who appreciated the home’s near-city location and proximity to quality schools.

“The home has heaps of potential and I think the uniqueness of that particular property is the fact that it has three bedrooms,” she said.

“You don’t come across a lot of freestanding, three-bedroom cottages and the house itself is also quite a large size and of course, it’s not that far from the CBD, so offers a great lifestyle close to cafes, restaurants and the cinema.”

Prospect has a median house price of $1.008m, according to PropTrack.

The property will be auctioned at 11.30am this Saturday, on site.
