A renovated California-style bungalow owned by NRL star Valentine Holmes and his gym owner wife Natalia is now under contract after being listed for offers over $1.15 million.

The couple listed the stunning 1930s-era Townsville residence after purchasing another statement residence in the city for $1.405 million in March.

The renovated character house on Melton Hill

On sought-after Melton Hill, the three-bedroom house on a 910sq m block was sold by Luke Need and Kya Faust of Need Property West End.

It was originally listed for offers over $1.3 million.

“Highly regarded as one of Townsville’s most sought-after positions, Melton Hill is steeped in local history,” the listing said.

“Home to Townsville’s very first property that was constructed in 1865 for one of the cities earliest residents, John Melton Black.”

Black is considered one of the founders of Townsville after the Scottish immigrant moved to North Queensland and erected the first wharf, store and buildings at Ross Creek.

He worked as the town surveyor, builder, storekeeper, shipping agent, stockman and newspaper editor, according to Townsville City Council records.

The Holmes’ Herbert St residence was purchased by the couple for $1.1 million back in 2019, property records show.

They then did an extensive renovation while maintaining its historic charm.

The Melton Hill residence has open plan living spaces with vaulted ceilings, an updated kitchen adjoining the outdoor entertaining areas, a formal patio with views over Cleveland Bay, a huge rear deck with views of the city, Castle Hill and Ross River, airconditioning, solar power, double car accommodation, electric gate and character features throughout.

Mr Need declined to comment.

The Cowboys centre will go up against the Penrith Panthers at Queensland Country Bank Stadium on Friday at 8pm.

Holmes will also run onto the field for State of Origin Game 2 on June 21 at Suncorp Stadium.
