There is a house in there at 34 Halstead Street, Gulliver,

Harking back to the same era as The Day of the Triffids, this large Queenslander complete with an outdoor dunny will go under the hammer tomorrow.

But there is a catch. You can’t see inside.

Listed with Ian Clarke of Ian Clrke Real Estate, the 1950s abode is being sold on behalf of the Public Trustee, with a warning.

“This property will be offered for sale sight unseen due to the front and rear stairs being unsafe to use,” its says.

“So unfortunately no physical access to the house is being offered.”

Sight unseen sale only

But even if you could go inside, you would have to battle through the overgrown vegetation which hides the house from street view, reminiscent of 1951 post-apocalyptic novel by the English science fiction author John Wyndham.

Thankfully it is not Triffids

In that novel, called The Day of the Triffids, people are blinded by an apparent meteor shower, and then an aggressive plant starts taking over the world.

At first glance, that appears to be occurring at 34 Halstead St in Gulliver.

But alas, Mr Clarke said the once loved garden had merely overgrown without the care of its owner.

“I had someone here for an inspection and they said, blimey I feel like I am in Jumanji,” he said.

“But it is a cracker. It is a big house for the area.”

Can’t tell if that is the kitchen or kitchenette

On a 809sq m block, the house has over 130sq m of floor area, five bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen and kitchenette.

There is also two chandeliers in the living spaces.

Chandeliers darling!

Under the home is fully enclosed in breeze blocks and lockable, with space for two cars.

The property will also be sold with the furniture and contents onsite, which include an old school box TV, piano, various cupboards and hutches, artworks and a fridge.

“There has been plenty of interest,” Mr Clarke said. “I even had someone fly up from Victoria.

“They are mostly renovators and first home buyers.”

Mr Clarke said there was already seven registered buyers, but he tipped more than 15 would be there for the auction at 1pm tomorrow (Saturday 12, 2023).

“That’s what my gut is telling me,” he said.
