Buy this Clayton Bay home and you can live a comfortable and cosy life – but any chickens you have will live like royalty.

The two-bedroom cottage at 13 Clayton St is for sale and it comes with an unusual chicken coop in the backyard.

Homeowner Julie Pedley converted an old water tank into a grand nesting spot for chickens she planned to get but never did.

“I did the castle – I thought every house should have a castle,” she said.

“If I was staying, that would be for the chickens.”

The water tank-turned-chook house is just one of the changes Ms Pedley has made to the 1554sq m property since buying it two years ago.

She had grand plans for it from the moment she saw it after deciding to sell her home interstate.

“I saw this cottage and thought it would be well worth doing some work on it,” she said.

“Everyone in Clayton Bay knows it, they know the stone cottage because it really is quite unique, there’s no other house like it.”

Ms Pedley said she replaced the bathroom and kitchen, completely renovated the laundry and repainted the entire interior.

Further work was also done outside to fix up the home’s exterior and yard.

Ms Pedley said it was a peaceful home and she had initially planned to stay much longer.

“I didn’t anticipate moving so quickly but life changes,” she said.

“I hope whoever buys it really enjoys it.”

Ray White Goolwa-Victor Harbor agent Nici Casey, who is selling the property with Nathan Fry, said it was attracting strong interest.

“Most of our market is coming from Adelaide, the problem we have is there’s not enough people selling,” she said.

“Mostly Clayton has the new builds and shacks but this one, you can tell it’s been built with lots of warmth and character.”

The property is listed with a $495,000 to $525,000 price guide.
