Alice Springs artist Lynne Wastell is throwing open the doors of her renovated 1930s railway cottage for a combined open house and art show.

The 1300sq m property at 14 Railway Tce is on the market for $860,000 through Gail Tuxworth of LJ Hooker Alice Springs.

The property comes with a three-bedroom character home, a modern one-bedroom studio, pool and a functional but not flushing outhouse.

The walls of the cottage are lined with Ms Wastell’s paintings, so Ms Tuxworth and Ms Wastell decided to create an event to show off both the property and the artwork.

The Open House Soiree and Mertie’s Art House Exhibition will run from 6-7pm on Friday, October 13, with Mertie being Ms Wastell’s nickname.

“Every piece of art in the cottage is Lynne’s,” Ms Tuxworth said.

“Her work is amazing.

“I went to do an appraisal on the property and came away with two pieces of art.”

Ms Tuxworth said Ms Wastell had completely transformed the property since buying it in 2017.

“When you walk through the front door, which is original, it feels like you’re in another world, in a bygone era,” she said.

Ms Tuxworth said the talented artist put in a new kitchen, new bathroom, painted and upgraded the plumbing and electrics.

She installed a saltwater pool and had a second dwelling built with double lockup garage, self-contained studio and workshop.

The cottage has timber floors and airconditioning throughout, a fireplace in the living room and huge Falcon stove in the kitchen.
