An Unley Park home that has been a fabulous investment for its owners is ready to be enjoyed by a family.

The three-bedroom house at 8 Rutland Ave has hit the market with a $1.9m to $2.075m price guide.

Best of all, it’s set in the best suburb in the state, vendors Robert and Leonie Clyne say.

And they should know – they live next door.

The Clynes had long appreciated the grand home on the other side of their fence and when the opportunity to buy it came up in 2009, they jumped at it.

“It was built by Australian Motors owner Charles Hassan for his retirement in the mid-1980s,” Mrs Clyne says.

“We lived next door and our home was owned by my uncle before I got it and Charles and he were neighbours and good friends.

“When it hit the market we thought it would make a great investment for us for our retirement.

“We would have loved to have lived in it because it was such a magnificent property, but we were happy with our home and it has been such a great rental.

“We rented it out straight away and we’ve never had any problems.”

The home has three bedrooms, with the master suite complete with a dressing room and an ensuite with a spa, a shower and a bidet.

A formal lounge and dining room sits at the front, and the informal kitchen, living and meals area opens out to an indoor plunge pool, complete with swim spa jets.

“It’s a very solid home and all of the decorative light fittings were made by Murano in Italy specifically for the house; some of the doorsteps are marble and the timber panelling is extraordinary too,” Mrs Clyne says.

“Charles loved the house and looked after it so well, and as it looks now, that’s how it was when we bought it.

“Charles lived on his own and it has never had a family in it, but Charles used to have an enormous number of visitors from all over the world, and it really would be a fantastic entertainer.”

As stunning as the home is, Mrs Clyne says its location is a huge drawcard.

“We know how good it is here because we live it everyday and this is our third home in Unley Park,” she says.

“There are schools nearby, we catch the bus into the city and can be in there in 10 minutes, and we can walk to King William Rd for coffee.

“Plus we have shops and services really close, and we’re on a very quiet street.

“We’re only selling because we’ve decided it’s time to do a few things to our own house and we’re looking to wind up our investments and enjoy retirement.”
