He’s got three AFL premierships under his belt and a Brownlow to his name, and now former Port Adelaide Power assistant coach and current Carlton senior coach Michael Voss is hoping for another win when he sells his Malvern home.

The former Brisbane Lions star bought the 72 Clifton St home in 2016, attracted by its location and character offerings.

“Our kids were going to school at Walford and St Peters so we started to look around in the area and have always been a fan of heritage homes and the villas were a personal favourite and we took on the task of a renovation challenge, and it became our family home for the next seven years,” Voss said.

“I’ve got an older twin boy and girl and another girl and they were mid-teens while growing up there and we wanted to create a home where they each got their own personal space.”

As beautiful as the home looks now, Voss says that wasn’t always the case.

“It was old, and we had mixed flooring levels between the front and back part of the house,” he said.

“It’s got the front part of the house and somewhere around 1990 the second section was built, so we needed to make sure that was aligned with the integrity of the front of the home and the long-term vision was to renovate out the back with a more modern look but also maintaining the heritage of the front part.

“I love projects and co-ordinated this one, and I like to have that creative construction side of things, which probably stacks up with my current profession.”

While some in the football world like to live near the club, Voss said being some distance from Alberton had its advantages.

“We were lucky to be surrounded by a good school community, and it’s important to have that separation from work and your lifestyle,” Voss said.

“A lot of our community and socialising was around our kids’ schools and the friendships we forged there, and it gave us a bit of a healthier balance in our lives.”

Now living interstate and with just his son – Sturt defender and two-time club best and fairest Casey – living there, the time has come to sell the home.

“We’ve finished the home and whether it was now or the end of the year it was going to happen so we felt the time is right,” he said.

“We didn’t know whether the kids would stay there – my son will because he plays footy and works and his life is very settled there so for that very reason we’re going to be regular visitors back to SA, there’s no doubt.

“We don’t know where we’ll end up – football takes you in a lot of places.”

The home has three large bedrooms, a formal lounge and a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and living area opening to a decked outdoor entertainment area overlooking a low-maintenance rear yard with a studio/rumpus room.

The home is on the market with a $2.2 million price guide through Ouwens Casserly Real Estate and hits the auction block on May 27.
