Fnatic vs MAD Lions Preview and Predictions: LEC 2023 Summer Group Stage

Fnatic vs MAD Lions pits two teams against each other which shouldn’t be on the verge of elimination.

Only two days remain from the LEC 2023 Summer Group Stage! We have two out of the four Playoffs participants: G2 Esports and Excel Esports, who won the first two qualification matches this Monday. But Fnatic, MAD Lions, KOI, Team Heretics, SK Gaming and Team BDS are still in it, with only two of spots left – which of these squads will rise to the final part of the last third of the 2023 LEC Season?

Fnatic vs MAD Lions Preview

Fnatic

Fnatic shouldn’t be here after the performance they gave in the Summer Regular Season. With the addition of Oh “Noah” Hyeon-taek and Adrian “Trymbi” Trybus, Fnatic rose to the top of the ranks, finishing 2nd just behind G2 Esports after the first three weeks of the split. They only suffered 2 losses, one from their eternal rivals, and one from SK Gaming where they tried to surprise their opponents with a Xerath pick which couldn’t manage to do enough.

Nevertheless, they graduated with flying colours, joining the Group Stage as one of the top contenders. However, black-and-orange team received a reality check after facing SK Gaming again. While the Germans beat them in the Regular Season, nobody expected a 2-0 SK victory in the Bo3 Stage. Sadly for FNC fans, Marek “Humanoid” Brázda and his teammates failed to adapt to the 13.13 meta properly, while SK Gaming were on top of their games with picks such as Tristana, Kai’Sa and Poppy, and while the players of Fnatic were not completely lost, there was a clear difference between the teams – so Fnatic has to try again in the Lower Bracket.

MAD Lions

The Lions are in the same boat, if not a worse one. After winning the Spring Split and failing to secure a match in the MSI, MAD Lions returned to the LEC – only to flop again. Yasin “Nisqy” Dincer and co. finished 7th out of 10, with their fate hanging in the air until the last day of the Regular Season.

While they couldn’t break the top ranks, this was not a surprise for MAD, as they came back from the brink of elimination in the Spring Split. But after their loss against Excel Esports, they need to recuperate: the British team defeated them 2-0, but unlike Fnatic, MAD Lions couldn’t really stand up to their opponents – it was a slaughter by XL.

Fnatic vs MAD Lions Predictions

While both of the teams lost their first Summer Group Stage match 0-2, Fnatic were much closer to winning at least a game than MAD Lions ever were. Pair that with the fact that FNC beat MAD in the Regular Season, it’s clear that the Lions are not the favoured squad of this matchup – but they can always surprise us.
