33 Not Expecting To Play In Bali Major

Tundra Esports offlaner Neta “33” Shapira reveals he might not be able to travel to Indonesia for participating in the Bali Major

The reigning The International 11 (TI11) champion, Tundra Esports, have made an outstanding start in the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) Western Europe (WEU) 2023 Tour 3: Division I. Delivering exceptional performances, the team secured victories in all three series against challenging opponents OG, Entity, and D1 Hustlers. Tundra’s dominant displays in each series, with just one game dropped against OG, have firmly established them as a formidable contender in the tournament. With such consistent excellence, Tundra stand a strong chance of securing a favorable standing in the DPC rankings and earning a spot in the highly anticipated Bali Major 2023.

Tundra, however, face a significant challenge as they prepare to clash with their toughest opponents yet, Team Liquid and Gaimin Gladiators. These upcoming matches represent a formidable obstacle to Tundra’s aspirations for a successful DPC Tour 3 journey and qualification for the Bali Major 2023. During a post-match interview following their commanding 2-0 victory over D1 Hustlers, Tundra’s offlaner Neta “33” Shapira provided some revealing information about the team’s potential bootcamp arrangements for the Major. He also dropped a bombshell that left everyone surprised.

“We’ll probably have some short bootcamp before the major (Bali Major 2023). I mean even if we qualify for the major, I won’t be able to go. So we’ll have to probably practice at bootcamp with a stand-in and yeah, we’ll see how it goes.”

33’s comments require some geopolitical context for clarification. The offlaner is an Isreali citizen and the Bali Major will be held in Bali, Indonesia. Indonesia doesn’t recognize Isreal as a sovereign country, so unless Indonesia makes an exception for 33, the 26-year-old will not get a visa to enter the Southeast Asian country.

Indonesia has refused to host the Israeli team in the World Beach Games 2023. Israel has taken the matter to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), but Indonesia is yet to change its stance. Earlier, Indonesia lost the right to host the FIFA U-20 World Cup after declining Israel’s request to get visas for the competition.
