Dota 2: Best Items You Should Focus on In 2023 To Gain MMR

Dota 2 players are eager for 2023 and the first big update that will take place after the new update.

Even though we have yet to get any official information, Valve said that they will release it in early 2023. Aside from the new hero changes, we also expect to see Muerta, Dorta 2’s newest hero. No one knows any details about her yet, but judging from the trailer, she will be interesting.

Aside from using the hottest meta heroes, you must also know which items to get. Dota 2 is one of the most complex games in existence because it allows people to choose from all sorts of options. Some items are not that good right now, whereas others are really strong and will help you carry your team.

Speaking of strong items, the options you are about to see have proven themselves in the last couple of months. Despite the fact that the new update will change a lot of things, we don’t expect to see any major nerfs.

Aghanim’s Scepter

Old-school Dota 2 players may remember that Aghanim’s Scepter was an item that only worked on a couple of heroes. However, Valve buffed it tremendously in the last couple of years, which is why pretty much every hero in the game benefits from it one way or another.

Speaking of benefits, Aghs is one of the best items for a lot of heroes, especially when it comes down to PUBs. Heroes like Pudge, Zeus, and Witch Doctor become way more dangerous when they have access to it. Unless the new update changes the game from the ground up, this will continue to be the case.

One of the things that Valve addressed is Aghanim’s low cost to build. The item used to cost around 4200 gold, but after the changes, its price is 5800. This makes it one of the most expensive items to get, especially for some of the support heroes. Needless to say, not all of them can afford it, which is one of the reasons why you often find this item among cores.

Aghanim’s Shard

The second item you should focus on when it comes down to winning PUB Dota 2 games is Aghanim’s Shard. Often called the “poor man’s scepter”, this item is not as efficient as the one on which it is based on. However, it costs 1400 gold, which is significantly less than the Scepter. The bad news is that the item does not provide any stats, which is why it is not ideal for every hero.

Similar to the Aghs,  this item changes a specific hero’s ability or grants something new. Even though it is good on almost any hero in Dota 2, some options stand out. For example, WD is a pretty popular support when it comes down to this item. Juggernaut and his mini Omnislash is also a solid option.

An important thing to remember about this item is that most core heroes will only get it once they have everything else they need. Since it does not take up a slot, it is one of the best items to get once you are 6-slotted.

Black King Bar

Despite the nerfs the item had gone through in the last couple of years, BKB remains the single most important item in Dota 2. Whether you watch high-level PUB games or the best teams in the world, you will see that the core heroes always have it. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering that the item offers spell immunity.

Even though there are certain Dota 2 abilities that go through BKB, the item provides solid protection against a lot of abilities, especially CCs. Usually, its duration is enough to allow the given hero to land at least a few kills,

Speaking of durations, BKB is one of the items that won’t last as long as before once you use it. In fact, its duration is 9s, 8s, 7s, and 6s after your first, second, third, and fourth usage. Fortunately, it does not drop below 6s, so you can always rely on it in a difficult situation.

The Black King bar costs 4050 gold to get, making it one of the more affordable carry items in the game.

Desolator

Since we’re talking about gaining MMR in Dota 2, we have to include a couple of things that will allow you to do tons of damage without the need to spend a fortune. Most people think of Battlefury, but this item only works well if you are a melee. Sure, it will give you damage as a ranged hero, but it is not that good.

Fortunately, there is an alternative called Desolator. This item costs just 3500 gold, but it grants you a lot of damage. On top of that, Desolator lets you gain +2 damage when you kill a target under its effect, and you can get up to 20 damage in total. If that’s not enough, the unit you attack will have -6 armor for 7s, which means it will be even easier to land a kill.

Desolator is a must-have item for a couple of heroes. Of course, the first name that comes to mind is Templar Assassin because Deso plays a crucial role in her item build. The same applies to Phantom Assassin, as well as Lifestealer, WK, LC, and so on.

Other items

The four things mentioned above are definitely worth it and will have a crucial role for many players. However, this doesn’t mean there aren’t other solid options to pick from. For example, things like the Scythe of Vyse and Abyssal Blade are good in any meta and on pretty much any hero. Accessing something that can CC a target is incredibly powerful and will help you win the game.
