Character homes on Adelaide’s coastline always attract strong interest when they hit the market, so don’t expect this one to stick around for too long.

Vendor Helen bought the Henley Beach South home at 151 Esplanade in January 2008.

Her son John, who is selling it on her behalf with his sister Vicki and brother Peter, says she was attracted by its style and location.

“Our family has always loved the beach, and when a character home on the beachfront became available, it was like a dream come true,” John says.

“It is a handsome home with an interior filled with beautiful character features and leadlight windows.

“We’ve used it as a family beach house over the holidays and whenever any of us felt like we needed a sea change.

“It worked really well for us in that regard, and was so easy – you can have a holiday and still go to work from there, it’s so central to everything.”

John says the home was lovely when his mother bought it, and it has since been updated to give it a more modern aesthetic

“Quality has always been very important to Mum,” John says.

“It was a beachfront home for the whole family to enjoy so the kitchen needed to be top quality with good appliances and solid granite benchtops.

“The bathrooms were also fitted with high quality fixtures and fittings to give it a really special feel.”

The home has four bedrooms, a mix of formal and informal living spaces, two bathrooms, a cellar and several areas for outdoor entertainment.

“It was great for entertaining, especially that wraparound veranda where we would all sit, sip on a drink and watch the sunset,” John says.

“Plus, it has a covered alfresco and garden, so you have some great options for hosting family and friends.”

As lovely as the home is, John says its location was second to none.

“You can walk everywhere to so many wonderful restaurants and shops, and an express bus into the city is just around the corner,” he says.

“The airport is five minutes away, which was so convenient for picking up visiting friends and family, and the beach is just incredible.”

With the family not using the home as much anymore, John says the time has come to hand it over to another deserving family.

“We’ve really loved it here and we hope another family loves it just as much.”
