WWE 2K24: Release date & roster predictions

It’s been a huge year in wrestling, with stars jumping between promotions and some familiar faces returning, which makes WWE 2K24 one of the most hotly anticipated wrestling games in years.

Table of Contents

After a solid return to form, 2K needs this year’s title to keep the upward momentum if they are to make this a meaningful annual release. So what can we expect from WWE 2K24? Let’s take a look.

WWE 2K24 release date prediction

The last game dropped on 17 March, two weeks before WrestleMania, and it was a similar case for WWE 2K22.

If that pattern holds, players can expect WWE 2K24 to release somewhere around 22 March, 2024.

Editions

2K loves a special edition to a game, and WWE 2K24 should be no exception.

Given the surprise return of CM Punk, we predict a “Best In The World” Edition or something similarly themed. It might be a little late to create a full Showcase around Punk, but we expect WWE and 2K to lean heavily into his popularity to sell the game this year.

Any special edition is likely to come with three days early access as well as some special characters, outfits, or arenas. There is also likely to be a season pass included that will give you a DLC pack for free further down the line.

Cover star

If Punk isn’t the focus of the special edition, he could well be on the WWE 2K24 cover star.

But if not him, then who? Well, there are a few obvious candidates. Before Punk re-joined WWE, Cody Rhodes was their biggest signing. It’s also been a few years since Roman Reigns was on the cover. He is still the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion after all, even if he isn’t on TV every week.

However WWE & 2K has had their Showcase wrestler as the cover star for the last two years.

If they are keeping with that theme, and it’s too late to create a CM Punk Showcase we expect Cody Rhodes to be the cover star this year.

WWE 2K24 roster

CM Punk isn’t the only major face that will be added to this year’s game from the WWE 2K23 roster.

WWE recently signed Jade Cargill away from their rivals AEW and re-signed Nia Jax and Kairi Sane to bolster their women’s roster.

Carlito has returned, while Carl Fredericks and Lexis King (Brian Pillman Jr) should also be added to the roster for this game.

There have been some departures though. Most notably, Edge and Goldberg are no longer with WWE, while Ronda Rousey, Dolph Ziggler, Shelton Benjamin, and Mustafa Ali are also no longer on the roster.

There could be some surprise additions too. While the UFC game license sits with EA, WWE and UFC are now combined under the TKO Group. This could see some UFC stars crop up in the WWE game.

We are also likely to see a collection of legends in the game. There are some mainstays like Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant, but we could get a few more recent ones who aren’t affiliated with AEW such as the Road Warriors, Rhyno, or Crash Holly. You never really know who 2K & WWE will decide to include!

Game modes

We expect MyGM, Universe, MyRISE, and MyFACTION to all return for WWE 2K24.

The main question right now is whether there will be any meaningful changes to these modes. Annual sports titles are notorious for only making minor tweaks, so we don’t expect much to change.

The Showcase should be around either Cody Rhodes or CM Punk. Both have a long WWE history to put together, and while Rhodes’ Showcase is missing the crowning moment right now, it might be easier to have all his historic opponents shown as many are still with WWE or at least not with AEW.
