Most “overnight sensations” spent years toiling in anonymity.
But, then there’s a spark that sets your career rolling.
Now, science has discovered how it works.
Artificial intelligence shows that ““hot streaks” are commonly preceded by an experimental phase followed by a focus on one particular approach once the winning period has begun.”
Studies have shown that at least 90% of people experience at least one period of good luck where things tend to go right most of the time. The question is how to build on that to make it last.
One example is the movie director Peter Jackson who was known for his B-pictures until he landed the opportunity to direct the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy of films.
The AI program looked at the director’s work based on plot and cast information. It found that the person’s work was diverse before the initial success and then narrowed to follow the winning path.
Unfortunately, the scientists conclude that “Deciphering what predicts hot streaks, however, remains a challenge, partly due to the complex nature of creative careers.”
So, the best advice is to never give up because you don’t know when you’ll get hot.
