The U.S. Department of Education has released a new national education technology plan for the first time since 2016. Unlike past plans that have “largely served as surveys of the state of the field,” the 2024 National Educational Technology Plan “frames three key divides limiting the transformational potential of educational technology to support teaching and learning,” says a U.S. Department of Education press release. These are the digital use divide, the digital design divide and the digital access divide.

Technology tools like Nearpod, Pear Deck and Jamboard are helping educators support thoughtful and respectful classroom discussions on complex and sensitive topics, writes Allison Lahl, director of student life at York School in Monterey, Calif., a private school. In this article, Lahl writes that by allowing students to engage in anonymous written reflections with the help of technology, these platforms provide a scaffolded approach that promotes an inclusive and reflective environment.

District opts for remote learning in place of snow days
Santa Fe Public Schools in New Mexico, having used up its allocated snow days for the school year, will implement remote learning in case of further weather disruptions. Officials say the move is prompted by state-mandated instructional hours and aims to ensure continuity amid unpredictable weather conditions.
