With Independence Day tomorrow, Cirium have revealed that flights between the UK and US are expected to exceed pre-pandemic levels.
Cirium Data – Transatlantic travel
4 July departures:
- On 4 July 2023, 152 flights are scheduled to depart the UK for the US – equating to nearly 40,000 seats
- This figure is up 21% on 4 July 2022, when there were 126 scheduled departures, and up 361% on 4 July 2021 when there were 33 scheduled departures
- Scheduled departures this year are also 5% higher than pre pandemic levels (4 July 2019), when there were only 145 departures.
July departures:
- During July 2023, 4,658 flights are scheduled to depart the UK for the US – equating to over 1.2 million seats
- Departures from the UK to the US are projected to exceed July 2019 levels by 1%, with pre-pandemic figures for the month sitting as 4,603
- Transatlantic flights from the UK to the US are up 18% compared to July 2022 and up 395% compared to May 2021, as travellers resume business and leisure trips
- Heathrow has the highest share of scheduled flights from the UK to the US this month (82%), followed by Gatwick (8%), Edinburgh (5%) and Manchester (4%) – with a total of nine UK airports having direct flights to the US
- From the UK, New York JFK remains the most popular US destination by scheduled flights, followed by Los Angeles, Newark, Boston and Chicago
- This month, British Airways will operate the highest share of flights between the UK and US (30%), followed by American Airlines (17%), United Airlines (17%), Virgin Atlantic (17%) and Delta Air Lines (10%).
