Proper Kit Bashing a Spaceship Model #SciFiSunday

The grown mutant offspring (Blake) and I spent the day yesterday doing some proper trash bashing for the first time. This is when you start with a big pile of plastic kitchen trash, old toys and tabletop gaming miniature parts and glue them together as inspired until you have something that meets the goal you’re after. In our case, it was dwellings for a frontier sci-fi town for Stargrave.

In this SciFiCreate video, Tony explores the close cousin of trash bashing: kit bashing. This is when you start with a bunch of scale model parts and mash them all together until you have something that meets your goal, in this case, a spaceship.

The fun of both of these methods of modeling cannot be overstated. It’s like jazz improve in physical form. The pieces begin to talk to you, and together, you collaborate until you have something cool. And, even if it looks like a bunch of disparate parts, it won’t after priming (which magically ties everything together) and painting/weathering.

This activity is so much fun, in fact, that I encourage you to do it whether you play tabletop miniatures games/make indie sci-fi films or not.
