What was once a backyard with swimming pool is now a contemporary Malvern home that’s offering a life of both luxury and great comfort.

Built in 2007 by Medallion Homes, the four-bedroom house is on the market for the first time.

Owners Anne and Lu Lippis built it on what was once the backyard of their Austral Tce home.

They subdivided their property on the corner of Austral Tce and Rugby St, kept the 578sq m Rugby St portion to build their new home and sold the rest.

Having lived in Malvern since 1986, they didn’t want to leave the suburb because they loved it so much.

“We built on our swimming pool at the back, basically”, Mr Lippis said.

“We had to put all the services on – there was no power, no sewerage, no telephone line,” Mrs Lippis said.

It was worth it because the house has been not only a home to Mr and Mrs Lippis but also their visiting children and grandchildren.

The couple designed the house so all the facilities they needed were on the ground floor, including the master bedroom, while the top level allows guests to have their own space.

There are two large bedrooms upstairs, as well as a living room, a bathroom and a built-in kitchenette.

“All the facilities were downstairs and then the young ones went upstairs, it worked really well,” Mr Lippis said.

Downstairs, the main bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe and an ensuite that boasts underfloor heating, as well as another bedroom, are positioned at the front of the house.

The open, light-filled kitchen, dining and lounge room – where a butler’s pantry and log fireplace are standout features – are at the heart of the home and flow seamlessly outside through bi-fold doors.

The undercover outdoor areas offer plenty of space to entertain come rain or shine and overlook an established easy-care garden.

It’s not just the home that’s enticing though – in one of Adelaide’s most sought-after suburbs, it’s close to plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops.

“It’s just a really lovely area,” Mrs Lippis said.

“We brought our family up there and everything is so close, within walking distance if you want to.”

She said making the call to move was difficult but the time was right to downsize.
