From the outside, it looks like your typical character home.

But step inside this renovated 19th century villa and you may find yourself dusting off a copy of E. L. James’ romance novel Fifty Shades of Grey.

Painted in shades of grey and featuring a centrally-located stone cellar, 11 Gladstone Ave, Magill, is quickly capturing the imagination of buyers, with more than 50 groups attending the home’s first open on the weekend.

Selling agent Scott Moon, of Harris Real Estate, who sold the property to the vendors as a flip job last year, said he expected the home to fetch around $1.5m.

That’s almost $600,000 more than Magill’s median house price, according to PropTrack.

“The vendors saw the potential in it, thought they could renovate it and put it back on the market within a year,” Mr Moon said.

“I think they’ve done a great job … and in the original section of the home, the major update was the addition of an ensuite and a walk-in robe to the main bedroom.

“It’s also been completely rewired throughout with all new plumbing … and painted the home in warmer (grey) tones as they wanted to complement the fact that they were going modern with the renovation.

“Another really cool feature is the cellar.

“It’s in the centre of the main living space so they put a balustrade around it to incorporate it in the design, and someone may choose to do something with that (space).”

While the home has undoubtedly set tongues wagging, Mr Moon said buyer interest was fielded from not where you would expect.

“It’s mainly been family buyers,” he said.

“Magill is very family focused as you have East Torrens Primary and Norwood International High School nearby and that’s a big draw card.

“We’ve got a couple of offers on the table already, so it should do really well.”

The home, which sits on a 728sq m block, includes four bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open living and dining space, a modern kitchen, and a rear veranda with access to two side-by-side storage spaces.

A spacious lawn area canopied by a gum tree offers scope for further expansion, including a pool, subject to council consent.

Best offers close at noon on June 13.
