Just Cause Mobile Is Just Dead – Droid Gamers

Just Cause Mobile is over, before it even started. The free-to-play mobile offering for the iconic series will never see the light of day.

The first news of this came in a statement from Square Enix’s global brand lead on the franchise, Anne-Lou Grosbois-Favreau, made to Video Game Chronicle earlier this week.

According to Grosbois-Favreau, Square Enix are announcing the ‘end of development’ for the game. The game will be removed from app store platforms and there will be no release.

Dead Sites And A Ghost Town Google Listing

Currently, the Google Play listing still exists, a haunting reminder of what might have been. We don’t know how long that will be the case. The official website appeared to be non-functional, and the official Twitter and Facebook accounts seem to have disappeared.

While the news is a shame, it’s not a complete shock. The game’s original release date sits all the way back in 2021. There was clearly a playable build, as a regional Early Access took place.

Grosbois-Favreau pointed out that any premium currency purchased during the early access period received a refund already, so the cancelation should not leave players out of pocket.

An Ambitious Adaptation

The Just Cause franchise seems like a challenging adaptation. The PC and console offerings from the series sell themselves on scale, with large play areas you can navigate through grappling and paragliding.

The mobile release promised these trademark means of navigation, as well a 30-player PVP, a customizable Firebrand agent character, four-way co-op, and a story campaign, all powered by Unreal 4.

The game was planned to be free-to-play. It would finance itself via in-game purchases, which could range up to $109.99 per item.

Now we’ll never know what its final shape could have been.
