LEARNZ has many free resources for you and your ākonga, including this free resource exploring Matariki.

In this wānanga Jamie Taylor of Tātai Aho Rau and Dr Rangi Matamua of Living by the Stars unite to guide you and your ākonga in learning about the many aspects of Matariki, including what Matariki means, how to find Matariki, and Kōkōrangi Māori (Māori astronomy).

Dr. Rangi Matamua

2023 New Zealander of the Year, Dr Rangi Matamua is communicator, researcher and astronomer who has revolutionised Aotearoa’s understanding of Māori astronomy, and in particular Matariki. He is celebrated for his accessible and engaging ways of communication to many different audiences.

Jamie Taylor

Jamie started her teaching career working in mainstream education for five years before transitioning into a bilingual setting for the latter three years. She worked to develop a bilingual setting at Linton Camp School that is unique and supported Māori learners and her colleagues in English-medium to practice Te Reo mē ōna tikanga honorably.
