What makes Dota 2 such a fun game to play are the heroes. There are currently 124 heroes available in the game, each of them with a completely unique set of skills, strengths, and weaknesses.

Muerta, the most recent hero to join the Dota 2 roster, was initially released as an Intelligence Carry hero with massive damage potential and a decent bit of control. Immediately after its release, Muerta quickly became a popular hero in the Pub games for a good couple of months.

The surprising thing here is that Muerta was not only being played as a Carry, the role she was made for, but many people were also rocking her as a Position 4 support. Her win rate as a Position 4 support wasn’t too bad either.

Now that all the hype has died down, and we are awaiting the release of a new hero, Ringmaster, we decided to take another look at Muerta, the Master of Death, and her skills, but this time as a Support. So let’s get started!

Muerta Support Build Items

Here are the items that you need to play Muerta as a Position 4 support hero in Dota 2:

Buying two sets of Tango on a Position 4 Muerta is a great idea since it gives you a lot of sustain to trade hits with the enemy. You also want to take a set of Observer and Sentry wards to get vision on the lane and Creep Camps.

A Blood Grenade will give you some kill threat if the enemy support or carry goes out of position. Finally, two Iron Branches will give you some much-needed stats for the lane. You can also upgrade them to Magic Stick Later on.

One Clarity and one Mango should offer enough Mana regen in the lane to use your skills on the enemy.

For the early-game items, the biggest decision you need to make is whether you want Arcane Boots or Tranquil Boots. Other than that, you need to finish up that Wand for some extra burst heals in the game.

Go for Arcane Boots if your team needs a lot of mana to function. If the enemy team has serious damage in the lane, Tranquil Boots is better. For mana, you can just buy Infused Raindrop for regen.

Core Items:

Position 4 Muerta doesn’t really need too many items. The Core Items that we highlighted in the above picture are the ones that she benefits from the most. She mostly wants to position herself properly in fights so that she can get a good angle on her Deadshot.

That’s why Items like Force Staff, Glimmer Cape, or Blink Dagger are great on this hero. Rod of Atos can serve as a decent Catch item, and Aether Lens increases the range of your abilities even more.

Situational Items:

Situational Items for Muerta can range from Pipe of Insight to Windwaker. You could also upgrade your Tranquil or Arcane Boots to their next tier. Upgrading your Rod of Atos to Gleipner can also work well in the later stages of the game.

Make sure you check the enemy lineup and try to counter them with your Situational Item pickup. For example, if there’s a high-mobility hero like Puck, buying an Orchid Malevolence can help your team kill the hero.

Neutral Items:

For your Neutral Item slot, it really depends on what you get in the game. Go with Neutrals that either help in Mana management or Make Muerta more survivable. Philosopher Stone can sometimes help if you’re planning on getting to a key item faster.

Muerta Support Build Spell Progression

If you’ve played Muerta as a Carry before, you should be pretty familiar with her spell progression. However, as a Position 4 Support, your goal is to control the battlefield. That means your Deadshot and The Calling abilities take priority.

You want to start with The Calling as it is a Massive AOE slow and also Silences the enemies when you use it right. The next spell you want to max out is your Deadshot. It will help you push enemies out of position. It can also help secure the Ranged Creep or harass the enemy hero in the lane.

Take your Ultimate at levels 6, 12, and 18. You also want to unlock talents as soon as you get access to them. Don’t upgrade your Gunslinger Ability before you max out your Deadshot and The Calling.

Mureta is far from the best Position 4 support in the game, but in the right lineup and with the right allies, she fits in perfectly. She counters heroes that deal high Physical damage, such as Juggernaut or Terrorblade. Muerta can also offer decent crowd control with her first and second ability.

If you’re playing her as a Position 4 support, you’ll go lane with your Offlane in the Hard Lane of the map. In the laning phase, use your Ranged basic attack to harass the enemy Carry and Position 5 as much as possible. Her high attack range and base damage are decent at trickling down the enemy's health and forcing them to spend their consumables to heal.

Try to secure the Range creep for your Offlaner if he is having trouble getting it. Also, try to contest the enemy pull and get pulls of your own camp whenever possible. If the enemy support comes too far forward while trying to contest your pull, use your Deadshot to take him out of position.

When the lane is safe for your Offlaner, you can rotate to your Midlane to gank or secure the Power runes. As the game progresses, try to get your core items as fast as you can. Don’t hesitate to play a little greedy and farm an empty lane if your Cores are jungling.

In the mid-game, get as much vision on the map as possible. Get Smoke of Deceit and roam around with your Offlaner to get kills around the map under your vision. Always keep a Teleportation Scroll ready so that you can help out in other lanes whenever a fight breaks out.

If the game seems tough and your team lacks damage, start getting some Damage Items like Maelstrom or Gleipnir. Muerta can scale pretty fast with a bit of farm. So if you’re on the backfoot, get vision and farm the Deadlanes when your cores are taking the safe farms on the map.

In team fights, try to put down your The Calling ability in choke points so that the enemy team can’t use their spell properly. Using Deadshot to take the backline enemy supports also offers a lot of utility amidst chaotic team fights.

Trick Shot!

Muerta is a pretty versatile hero, and though her win rate as a hero is not exceptional, it’s not too bad either. Mastering her Deadshot ability and using it smartly is the key to unlocking her true potential as a support.

So don’t be afraid to try her out. If you manage to get a good grip on her, you’ll add a powerful support hero to your arsenal. Good luck!
