Global Trade Increase Causes Increase in Customs Documents

The volume of goods traded internationally keeps going up, and it doesn’t look like it will go down in the years to come. This a good thing for customs brokers, who are enabling this global trade by creating and processing many of the necessary documents and certificates related to this international trade. Like almost every subsector of the supply chain and logistics industries, customs brokers also see an increasing shortage of qualified personnel. In Europe, for example, we saw a sharp increase of documents needed when the United Kingdom left the European Union, on top of the growth in Trade causing a big shortage in declarants on both the EU and the UK side.

Digitalisation is helping customs brokers keep up with the rise in volume, but that is not all. It’s also increasing efficiency and enabling customs brokers to use more of their time to add value for their clients and less time on manual processes.
