From Source to Sold. Real Stories From Real Supply Chains

I have known Radu Palamariu for a while and have been following him on LinkedIn for much longer. He has always had a fresh take on supply chain talent and what the most important traits are for successful supply chain leaders. Radu is the Founder and Managing Director of Alcott Global, a global executive search firm focused on operations and supply chain. When he teamed up with McKinsey Partner and Supply Chain Expert Knut Alicke to write a book on supply chain management, I got excited.

Real Stories from Real Supply Chains

Knut and Radu decided to interview 26 thought leaders and experts from the field to tell their stories. They asked them questions like What makes a great supply chain leader? What lessons can we learn from the best supply chain leaders across varied industries? And how can you reach the CEO chair or boardroom table from a supply chain role?

The list of experts is impressive. Some of my personal favorites:

  • Yossi Sheffi, Director, MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics
  • Ivanka Janssen, Chief Supply Chain Officer/EVP, Philips
  • Lynn Torrel, Chief Procurement and Supply Chain Officer, Flex
  • Essa Al-Saleh, CEO and Board Member, Volta Trucks
  • Ken Allen, Board Member, DP DHL

Supply Chain Gets a Seat at the Table

Due to global disruptions like the pandemic and events like the blockage of the Suez Canal, the importance and vulnerability of supply chains became apparent. Supply Chain and logistics are more top of mind than ever, and people are finally realizing that there is a whole world behind how their products arrive at their doorstep. This increased awareness of the importance of supply chain management is also landing in corporate boardrooms. An increasing number of companies have a Chief Supply Chain Officer, and that’s a significant development.

Supply chains are very complex, and if you can successfully manage shortages and disruptions and constantly improve processes, making sure the company can deliver on its promise to the customers, why shouldn’t you be able to steer the whole company through crises? True supply chain managers have a holistic view and approach.

The CHAIN Model

After speaking to 26 experts and hearing stories from different industries, geographies, and cultures, they have developed a model for becoming a successful supply chain leader: the CHAIN Model for Supply Chain Leadership. Collaborative, Holistic, Adaptable, Influential, Narrative.

If you are looking for supply chain inspiration, want to learn more about how to advance your career in the supply chain, or are just interested in what makes successful global supply chains work, then I recommend this book.

Thank you, Radu, for sending me a copy of your book. I loved it.
