Call Of Duty: Warzone’s New Map Is A 1984 Version Of Verdansk

Call of Duty: Warzone’s Verdansk map may have been destroyed on Wednesday, but on Thursday it has returned after a brief trip through time — with a massive update. The new version of the map is called Verdansk ’84 and it’s a fully updated version of the map that’s set in the 1980s.

Rather than the smaller updates that have been ushered in during previous seasons, Verdansk ’84 is essentially a whole new map. The shape and layout of the map may be the same, but almost every location, from the named areas to the space in between, has been changed.

There are areas like Airport and Stadium where the same type of building is in place, but with a new 1980s-design that makes it feel totally different. There are also plenty of new areas and named locations, like the Karst Salt Mines and Gora Summit, both of which are totally new. The most noticeable new location on the map is Grid Array, a massive area full of metal towers that can be climbed, and are seen from almost anywhere else on the map.

Of course, the locations aren’t the only thing that’s been updated for Verdansk ’84. The map’s arsenal has also undergone a complete change from the contemporary guns of Modern Warfare to the ’80s weapons of Black Ops Cold War.

The newly updated version of Verdansk even had a special event to introduce players to the map. As of Wednesday’s nuclear event, a new nighttime version of Rebirth Island was the only map available for players to check out. On Thursday, Raven Software opened up an event called The Destruction of Verdansk, Part 2, where players competed in a seemingly normal Rebirth Island match, where players tried to capture a nuclear device and hold it for a certain amount of time. Once a player secures the nuclear device they personally set off the nuke that destroyed Verdansk.

After witnessing the missile launch — and the destruction — players were instantly transported to Verdansk ’84 where they were immediately dropped into a match, straight into the action. After this little teaser, players were able to queue up for matches on Verdansk ’84 as they normally would, since the map has now replaced the previous version.
