Brazilian steel producer Usiminas has implemented an integrated PSImetals Sales and Operations Planning software solution that includes operations at the Cubatão and Ipatinga sites, as well as detailed PSImetals Flow and Order Planning for each production plant at these sites.

The software solutions have been running since 2022 and the whole project installation and implementation took place virtually.

Both implemented PSImetals features achieved very important business objectives, such as reducing the time required to create the sales and operations plan as well as the ability to create multiple demand and operational scenario simulations. In addition, delivery performance to the customer was improved.

For example, the software solution enabled more adequate decisions on ‘where to produce’ in cases where the demand could be satisfied from both sites, as well as adequately plan material transfers from Ipatinga to Cubatão.

According to Rodrigo Brentegani, IT Project Manager at Usiminas: “Before we implemented PSImetals, we had tried other solutions but they did not satisfy our production needs as we needed over 24 hours to run the sales and operation plans. Now, it takes just a few minutes and we can try different scenarios. Even though we are still learning, so far, we are satisfied with the performance.”

Usiminas (Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais S.A) is a leading steelmaker in the production and sales of flat steel in Brazil, with headquarters in Belo Horizonte/MG and two operative sites in Ipatinga/MG and Cubatão/SP. Usiminas produces slabs, heavy plates, as well as coils and sheets: hot rolled, cold rolled, electrogalvanised, and hot dip galvanized.

The PSI Group develops its own software products for optimizing the flow of energy and materials for utilities (energy grids, energy trading, public transport) and industry (metals production, automotive, mechanical engineering, logistics). The industry-specific products, which are built from standard components, are sold both directly and via the cloud-based PSI App Store and can also be customized by customers and partners themselves. PSI was founded in 1969 and employs more than 2,200 people worldwide.
