It’s been a while since we last heard about Rick and Morty: The Anime, the stand-alone anime spin-off series based on Adult Swim’s popular sci-fi sitcom. Not to worry, though: Adult Swim released a new clip of the anime over the weekend and revealed that the series, which was originally announced to release this Fall, would instead premiere next year on Adult Swim and Max.

The clip sees Rick facing off against an armada of alternate universe doppelgangers of himself with Summer attempting to aid him in tracking down their target from a radar station in Rick’s lab. It certainly looks like Rick and Morty and shares the series’ characteristic brand of offbeat sci-fi humor.

Executive produced by Jason DeMarco, Senior Vice President of Anime and Action Series at Warner Bros. Animation, and Joseph Chou (Blade Runner: Black Lotus), Rick and Morty: The Anime will be produced by Telecom Animation Film (Lupin III, Shenmue the Animation) and Sola Entertainment. Takashi Sano, the director of the first season of Tower of God and the “Rick and Morty vs. Genocider” and “Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil)” animated shorts, will direct and write the entire 10-episode series.

While there is no confirmed release date for the series at this time, the website for Sola Entertainment states that the anime is slated to premiere in the first quarter of 2024, which would place the show’s release approximately somewhere between the beginning of January and the end of March – just in time for the winter anime season!

Rick and Morty just concluded its seventh season on Sunday. The series is expected to return for an eighth season sometime in late 2024.
