Webinar on the Latest Private School Data from the Private School Universe Survey (PSS), the National Teacher and Principal Survey (NTPS), and the Teacher Follow-up Survey (TFS) and Principal Follow-up Survey (PFS) to the NTPS

On February 7, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) will host a webinar that will provide an overview of the newest data on private schools from the Private School Universe Survey (PSS), the National Teacher and Principal Survey (NTPS), and the Teacher Follow-up Survey (TFS) and Principal Follow-up Survey (PFS) to the NTPS during the 2021–22 school year. Topics discussed will include private school data on the number of private schools and student enrollment, the teacher and principal labor force, and attrition.

When: February 7, 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time

Where: This virtual webinar will be hosted via Microsoft Teams.

What: This webinar will provide an overview from NCES Study Director Andrew Zukerburg on select key findings from the Private School Universe Study (PSS), the National Teacher and Principal Survey (NTPS), and the Teacher Follow-up Survey (TFS) and Principal Follow-up Survey (PFS) to the NTPS.

The PSS is designed to generate biennial data on the total number of private schools, students, and teachers, and to build a universe of private schools to serve as a sampling frame of private schools for NCES sample surveys and assessments.

The NTPS is a nationally representative survey of public and private K–12 schools, principals, and teachers that collects data on topics including teacher and principal training, classes taught, school demographics of the teacher and principal labor force, working conditions, and school staffing.

The TFS—conducted as a follow-up to the 2020–21 NTPS—was designed to assess how many teachers from the 2020–21 school year still worked as a teacher in the same school during the 2021–22 school year (“stayers”), how many had moved to become a teacher in another school (“movers”), and how many had left the teaching profession (“leavers”). The PFS was conducted as a follow-up to assess principal turnover between the 2020–21 and 2021–22 school years—including the percentage of principals who left the profession or moved to a different school—by their demographics, school salaries, and job satisfaction.
