Carr’s (National Center for Education Statistics) lecture, “A Bold, Inclusive Roadmap for the Future: Our Pursuit of More Equitable Educational Outcomes for All,” will reflect on how her personal educational journey has—and continues to—shape her work; what the country will need from NCES and the educational research and statistics community to create equitable opportunities for all students; and NCES’ strategic plan to support the education information ecosystem of the future. Bolstering Innovation in Education Research: A Conversation With Institute of Education Sciences Director Mark Schneider

This open discussion forum provides an opportunity to hear from the director of the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), Mark Schneider. Over the past few years, IES has embarked on an agenda to accelerate learning in response to the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had across the education sector, and in advancing innovative, high-reward research to produce scalable solutions with the potential to transform education. Schneider will discuss important opportunities for the education research community and priority areas meriting attention. As we evolve from the depths of the COVID pandemic, it is important to assess impact on student learning and socioemotional outcomes, consider inequitable factors and differential effects, and to anticipate what research and data are most important from the U.S. and worldwide perspectives. This symposium takes up these issues in terms of research priorities and evidence-based policy. The three panelists bring distinctive emphases. Their three presentations aim to be catalytic allowing for discussion across the panel and with attendees.
