Which Cannabis Cups, Awards, and Prizes Has Sensi Seeds Won Over the Years?

Sensi Seeds has attended almost every cannabis competition in Europe (and a handful around the world, too) since the whole concept was founded in the early 80s. Sensi Seeds attends the High Times Cannabis Cup, the Highlife Cup, the Spanish cups, expos and so many more. There are now hundreds of yearly events around the world to celebrate innovation and excellence in cannabis genetics.

Cannabis cups include all matter of prizes, including Best Strains in indica, sativa, and hybrid, extractions, hydroponic, best booth, and so much more.

Sensi Seeds’ involvement with the High Times Cannabis Cup runs deep, and in 2013 High Times even inducted Sensi Seeds’ founder, Ben Dronkers, into their Counterculture Hall of Fame.

This article is a celebratory summary of all of the prizes Sensi Seeds has won at the many cannabis cups it has attended over the years. We look forward to adding to this list as the years go on, and as we continue to attend cannabis events and expos around the globe.

What happened at the 2013 High Times Cannabis Cup?

The 2013 Cannabis Cup ended on 28^th November, 2013, and turned out to be a quite an astonishing event for the Sensi Seeds team.

Ben Dronkers, the founder of Sensi Seeds, was inaugurated into the High Times Cannabis Cup Counterculture Hall of Fame that year. Despite being scheduled to receive this honour during the awards ceremony, Ben was interrupted by High Times security during his seminar at the Cannabis Cup expo. They were trying to stop him sharing cannabis with his audience.

Ben’s talk had focused on the origins of Sensi Seeds and the Dutch cannabis industry. He treated the rapt crowd to a slideshow that was as much personal as it was professional. And to finish things off festively, Ben underlined the heart of the culture by having three women dressed as the iconic ‘Sensi Lady’ throw one-gram bags of cannabis into the audience.

The crowd was naturally excited and happy to receive this bounty, but to everyone’s surprise, a High Times security official emerged from the audience and began hustling the women – one of whom was Ben’s daughter Shiva – back towards the stage.

It took several minutes for the man, who kept his hood up and head down for the duration of the incident, to restrain all three from further cannabis distribution. By this time, Ben realised what was occurring and addressed the crowd and the man – “there’s no law against sharing cannabis!”

Shortly after, the man was removed from the hall without further incident and Ben continued his talk. Moments later, Dan Skye, one of the High Times organizers, interrupted once more to instruct the crowd that they had to respect the law, and (somewhat strangely) that “this isn’t America”. Having apologized for the interruption, he left the stage and Ben was finally able to finish his seminar to a standing ovation.
