Baldur’s Gate 3 aims to replicate most of the D&D 5e rules with its own twists to create an exciting video game RPG. The real question is what the max level cap is in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Each time your character levels up, you’ll unlock things such as spells, abilities, and more. But how far can you go? We’ll answer this question below.

Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3): What is the max level cap?

Although the beloved TTRPG Dungeons & Dragons allows you to reach level 20, Larian Studios’ latest title differs slightly. The answer to what your max level can be in Baldur’s Gate 3 is level 12. As you progress through the story, you’ll level up and eventually hit level 12.

Since we also know how many Acts Baldur’s Gate 3 has, it’s plausible that you can reach the level cap in various ways. If you’re a player who enjoys completing every single thing in a game, you may reach level 12 early. Or, if you do a few side quests but mostly focus on the main quest, you’ll probably level up slower.

Getting to new levels is exciting in Baldur’s Gate 3, since you become more powerful and unlock new things. Depending on your class and subclass, your character will become much more skilled. If you’re playing a spellcaster, learning new spells and unlocking higher spell slots is thrilling. Not only that but at certain points, you can increase your Ability Scores or gain new Feats.

Larian Studios has confirmed that level 12 is the max level in Baldur’s Gate 3 because at level 13, spellcasters unlock level 7 spells that would completely break the game. While becoming a literal god in Dungeons & Dragons is fun, it’s extremely hard to make that feel balanced in a game like Baldur’s Gate 3.

I’m happy with Larian Studios’ decision to make the Baldur’s Gate 3 level cap 12. It’s an attainable goal that feels satisfying and keeps the game balanced. While it would be cool to see an Act 4 give us god powers to fight inter-dimensional beings, I’m happy with what Baldur’s Gate 3 delivers.
