UK announces six new CDCs for various diagnostic test services

The UK Government has announced the opening of six new community diagnostic centres (CDCs) in the East of England, the Midlands and the South East regions.

With an investment of around £2.3bn, the government aims to open 160 CDCs across England by 2025.

The new CDCs, which will provide a range of diagnostic tests, will serve as ‘one-stop shops’ due to their ability to offer over 500,000 additional tests, checks and scans every year.

The new CDCs are North Lincolnshire CDC, Pitsea CDC Ilkeston Community Hospital (Walton) CDC, North Solihull CDC, Hereford City CDC and Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley CDC.

North Lincolnshire CDC is anticipated to offer over 146,000 additional checks, including ultrasound checks, blood tests and CT and MRI scans, per annum.

Pitsea CDC will provide up to 46,000 tests, checks and scans, comprising CT and MRI scans, a year.

Ilkeston Community Hospital CDC will offer more than 100,000 tests, checks and scans per year Its services include ultrasound checks, X-rays and cardiology and respiratory diagnostics.

North Solihull CDC, which will deliver 116,000 tests, checks and scans per annum, is set to offer MRI, CT and X-ray scans.

Hereford City CDC will provide MRI, CT and X-ray scans, as well as ultrasound and respiratory checks and blood tests. Its capacity is 38,000 tests, checks and scans per annum.

Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley CDC, which will provide ultrasound checks, blood tests, CT and MRI scans, offers 96,000 tests, checks and scans per annum.

To date, England has established a total of 106 CDCs, with three of them being temporary locations.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said: “I have pledged to cut waiting lists and these new community diagnostic centres will do exactly that.

“By offering checks, tests and scans closer to home, we can speed up the diagnosis of illnesses like cancer and heart disease and ensure patients get their treatment quickly.”
