TSM Hopeful Of Counter-Strike Return Despite Financial Woes

The organization is committed to ending its six year Counter-Strike hiatus in 2023

TSM CEO Andy “Reginald” Dinh has reaffirmed his company’s intentions of re-entering the Counter-Strike scene before the year ends. He made the announcement on Twitter and stressed that TSM are always exploring investment opportunities across the esports realm.

The organization had expressed their interest in assembling a CSGO roster back in October. They had claimed they got in touch with BLAST and ESL to discuss how they could put together a successful CSGO roster in Europe “through long-term partnerships”.

The announcement has surprised some esports enthusiasts as it comes on the back of a recent Sports Business Journal report that insisted TSM are considering abandoning some of their esports ventures as they are going through severe financial hardship.

TSM’s finances took a big hit last year following the notorious FTX crash. The cryptocurrency exchange had signed a $210 million USD sponsorship deal with TSM. FTX’s collapse mean that money was no longet coming to the team, but TSM downplayed the possible impact of the incident. They declared that their finances were stable and they were looking forward to a successful 2023.

TSM, however, have taken off their Rainbow Six: Siege team from the shooters league circuit in February, which was mostly seen as a cost-cutting act. According to rumors, they are about to pull the plug on many of their other teams across various games.

TSM disbanded their North American roster in 2017, which had players like Sean “⁠seang@res⁠” Gares, Russel “⁠Twistzz⁠” Van Dulken, and Pujan “⁠FNS⁠” Mehta. Earlier, they had a Dane-only lineup featuring prominent names like Peter “⁠dupreeh⁠” Rasmussen Finn “⁠karrigan⁠” Andersen, and Nicolai “⁠device⁠” Reedtz. That squad reached the top of the rankings and added five LAN trophies to TSM’s cabinet. Despite the team’s enormous success, they split up after reportedly falling off with the TSM hierarchy over manager Frederik Byskov’s dismissal.
