Streaming service Trovo has partnered with Peruvian esports team Thunder Predator in a sponsorship deal.
As a result, Trovo, a Tencent Holdings company, will be the primary sponsor of the team.
A Dota 2 squad is currently housed at Thunder Predator. The team qualified for the International 10 in October after finishing in the Top 6 at the 2021 Singapore Major.
Trovo is a rapidly expanding live streaming service. According to Streams Charts’ compilation of its most popular games, it appears to have a particular affinity for mobile gaming.
Trovo and Allied Esports teamed up in May to produce an esports tournament series in Latin America, North America, and Europe. On top of that, in June, it teamed up with Super League Gaming.
Thunder Predator’s Project Manager, Diego Valenzuela, stated: “Having a sponsor[ship] from Trovo is a giant step for us.” Knowing that they are sponsoring a Peruvian organisation, it will undoubtedly have a significant impact on our national esports scene.”
The esports industry is booming in Latin America. According to Newzoo, Latin America will have 266 million video game players in 2020, up 7.6 percent year over year, or 10% of the world’s gaming population.
Thunder Predator’s sponsorship manager, Andrés Villagómez, CEO and Co-founder of Basher Agency, said: “Our job is to get transnational companies to recognise the brand value of Latin American electronic sports teams with sustainable metrics, which we have achieved between Trovo and Thunder.”
Since the demise of Microsoft’s Mixer, Twitch has had less competition. According to a Streamlabs report from April, Twitch, which is owned by Amazon, has a 72 percent market share.
In March of last year, Trovo began testing their streaming platform in the United States.
