In April 2024, the Inside Quantum Technology conference in The Hague will feature Dr. Nicolas Spethmann, a prominent figure in the field of quantum technology and the Head of Quantentechnologie-Kompetenzzentrum (QTZ) at Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, PTB. Dr. Spethmann, who completed his Ph.D. in 2012 in the group “quantum technology with single neutral atoms” at the University of Bonn, has since made significant contributions to the field, particularly in the realms of force sensing at the quantum limit and quantum-limited coupling of cold atomic gases via photons.

Following his Ph.D., Dr. Spethmann earned a prestigious Marie-Curie outgoing fellowship from the European Commission, which took him to the University of California, Berkeley. His groundbreaking research during this period further solidified his reputation as a leading mind in quantum technology. In 2017, he joined PTB, Germany’s National Metrology Institute, where he worked on quantum logic spectroscopy.

From 2020 to 2023, Dr. Spethmann served as the vice-chair of the focus group on the quantum technology of CEN-CENELEC. His efforts in this role were instrumental in developing a comprehensive roadmap for standardization in the field of quantum technology. Building on this foundation, he now co-chairs the newly established CEN/CENELEC “Joint Technical Committee 22 Quantum Technology,” which aims to advance the standardization efforts in this rapidly evolving field.

Additionally, since 2021, Dr. Spethmann has served as the vice-chair of IMEKO’s technical committee 25 “quantum measurement and information.” This role underscores his commitment to fostering international collaboration in quantum technology, a field increasingly recognized for its potential to revolutionize various industries.

At the Inside Quantum Technology conference, Dr. Spethmann is expected to share insights from his role as head of the Quantum Technology Center (QTZ) at PTB. Under his leadership, the QTZ has bridged the gap between fundamental quantum research and practical applications. This involves developing and providing metrology for quantum technology and coordinating several related activities, such as the “Umbrella Project Quantum Communication Germany SQuaD,” the “Cluster for Future QVLS-iLabs,” and the QT high-tech incubator “QVLS-HTI.”

Dr. Spethmann’s presentation at the conference is highly anticipated, as it promises to provide valuable insights into the latest developments in quantum technology and its applications in the real world. His expertise and leadership in the field make him a key figure in shaping the future of quantum technology, not just in Germany but on a global scale.

IQT The Hague 2024 is the Netherlands’ fifth global conference and exhibition. The Hague is a Quantum Technology Event focusing on Quantum Networking and Quantum Security. Ten vertical topics encompassing more than 40-panel talks from over 100 speakers will provide attendees with a deep understanding of state-of-the-art developments of the future quantum internet and the current impact of quantum-safe technologies on cybersecurity and quantum computers.

The conference brings together corporate management, entrepreneurs, end users, technology providers, infrastructure partners, researchers, and investors working on current developments. IQT The Hague is organized by 3DR Holdings, IQT Research, QuTech, QIA (Quantum Internet Alliance), and Quantum Delta, who will bring leading organizations and professionals together in this important event. The April conference is “in-person” to ensure maximum networking and discussion at the Postillion Hotel & Convention Centre in The Hague.
