Wonderful BBC News segment on geologist James Hutton, who lived and worked in the 1700s. His research expeditions to study rock formations on the Scottish coastline greatly altered our understanding of the earth’s timeline. Watch the full video here.

Through studying the rocky headland of Siccar Point, Hutton identified the existence of ‘deep time’ – proving that Earth is millions, not thousands, of years old.
