The Great Search: 20 to 30V low current booster for VFD or OLED #TheGreatSearch #DigiKey @DigiKey @Adafruit

(Video) This weekend we got to play with a VFD tube. This ancient technology uses a gas tube to light up segments. In order to activate the fluorescence, we need to provide 20 to 30V DC on the segments. Not a lot of current, maybe 1mA each, but definitely needs to be a high voltage.

For lower voltages, we could use a switched-cap converter. But for this, we’ll need a proper booster! Let’s find a small, low cost, simple, and available boost converter that can give us these bias voltages from 3 or 5V DC input.

See on Digi-Key now.
