The Elder Scrolls Online will soon use in-game currency for loot box items

In the gaming space, paying for in-game loot has more or less become a familiar sight. Be it cosmetics or the more egregious loot boxes, additional payments after buying a game is one way for developers to maximize the earning potential from invested players. Thankfully, that is more often found now in mobile games and obvious cash grabs. Most games are veering away from that in favor of letting players earn their keep instead. Bethesda and ZeniMax Online Studios’ The Elder Scrolls Online is doing just that, allowing players to obtain loot box items with in-game currency instead.

This will all arrive with the upcoming Update 30 for the MMO. Planned for a June launch, players will be given daily and weekly challenges that are called Endeavors. By accomplishing these tasks, the rewards can be gold, experience, or a new in-game currency, Seals of Endeavor.

Depending on the Endeavor, you will earn varying amounts of the in-game currency.

By amassing a healthy hoard of the Seals of Endeavor, players can use them to exchange for loot box items that were previously locked behind in The Elder Scrolls Online‘s crown crates. This includes any consumables, pets, cosmetics, or even the most sought-after Radiant Apex mounts.

Obviously, the Seal value for each individual item will differ, so just make sure you have enough for what you want. The caveat is that any loot box item players acquire in The Elder Scrolls Online cannot be converted into gems.

Seals of Endeavor will also be an account-based currency, so you can save as much currency as you want.

Convenience at a glance

There will be over 60 Endeavors, with some already familiar to players. Some examples provided are the following:

  • Steal or pickpocket items
  • Complete quests
  • Defeat enemies using Class or Weapon abilities
  • Sell items to vendors
  • Craft different types of items
  • Defeat different types of monsters
  • Harvest resource nodes

Of course, that is not all there is to do. It remains to be seen just what else The Elder Scrolls Online will task players with in order to pay for the loot box of their choice.

What is even better is that it will not be a tedious process. You can start Endeavors at any point — there is no option to choose a particular one. With everything active immediately, you can get straight to the hard work. Once you have fulfilled the conditions of any of the tasks, a notification will appear and the rewards will be given to you automatically. Making players’ lives easier is always a good way to earn some brownie points.

ZeniMax Online Studios is making sure the system rewards both newcomers and veterans. No matter how you play or when you play, you will also be working towards completing Endeavors. Once the update is live, the team will also monitor things and make changes whenever necessary.

To all of us not intending to spend real money in The Elder Scrolls Online, this new way of earning loot box items is an absolute gem.
