The Atlanta Falcons have seen enough of quarterback Desmond Ridder, and are benching him moving forward. Former Washington Commanders quarterback, Taylor Heinicke, will be the starter for the Falcons in Week 9, and presumably beyond.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Wednesday.

Ridder has started all eight games this season, going 4-4 throwing for six touchdowns and six interceptions and 1,701 yards. Many pundits felt he was holding the team back as they feature talent like Kyle Pitts, Drake London and Bijan Robinson, who were not producing in the way that they are likely able.

Heinicke got the bulk of his NFL action while with Washington. He played in 26 games and started 24 during his three years as a Commander, completing 64 percent of his passes and throwing for 33 touchdowns and 21 interceptions. He added two more touchdowns on the ground in those games.
