The international car manufacturer Stellantis announced January 15 plans to either lay off or cut the jobs of over 2,750 workers combined in the U.S. and Italy.

According to Reuters, Stellantis will be temporarily laying off almost 2,250 workers at its Mirafiori plant in Turin, Italy over the next few weeks, unions said January 15. The layoffs will begin February 12 and run through March 3, affecting 1,250 workers who make electric Fiat 500s as well as an additional 1,000 employees who produce Maserati vehicles, said a company spokesperson.

According to The Detroit News, the company also said that it would be permanently cutting 539 supplemental workers from its manufacturing operations across the U.S. Stellantis added that the job cuts would not be considered layoffs, meaning affected workers would not be eligible to receive unemployment benefits.

The only facilities that will not be impacted by the U.S. job cuts are Toledo Machining, Dundee Engine and Trenton Engine.

“As part of our normal course of business, Stellantis regularly analyzes staffing levels at our manufacturing facilities to ensure they are operating as efficiently as possible,” said a statement from company spokesperson Jodi Tinson. “This action will help improve the efficiency, productivity and market competitiveness of our facilities as we implement our Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan.”
