Star Ocean: The Second Story R appears to be yet another game on Switch with a physical release that requires a download.
Reddit user Casting_Quarters managed to find the RPG at Walmart even though it won’t be out for another week. At the bottom of the boxart, that’s where the dreaded “download required” label can be found. The back mentions that players need to download at least 3GB, but the final size is apparently 4.1GB.
Here’s a look at the box:
Star Ocean: The Second Story R isn’t the smallest game on Switch, but it’s only 11.9GB. We can’t think of a reason Square Enix wouldn’t be able to fit the entire thing on a 16GB cartridge. The company is also unlikely to provide its own explanation.
