Russell Crowe is joining the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder

It’s hard to find a major Hollywood actor who hasn’t been involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at this point, and Thor: Love and Thunder is making that task even more difficult. The latest addition to the film is Russell Crowe, The Hollywood Reporter reported on Monday, which adds yet another star to the already stacked cast.

We don’t know who Crowe will be playing, however. Another newcomer to the MCU in Love and Thunder will be Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, the likely villain of the film.

As for the rest of the cast it will, of course, feature Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, as well as Tessa Thompson, who will be returning to her role as Valkyrie. Natalie Portman is also returning to the Thor series as Jane Foster, for the first time since 2013’s Thor: The Dark World — though she did make a brief appearance in Avengers: Endgame. Also returning to the series is Jaimie Alexander as Sif, and Taika Waititi, who is also directing and co-writing the film, as the voice of Korg.

While this cast alone would already leave the movie packed with great actors, it still isn’t a complete list of the movie’s talent. Early reports — and Vin Diesel — tell us that the entire Guardians of the Galaxy team will be in this movie as well. That means Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord, Karen Gillan’s Nebula, Dave Bautista’s Drax, Pom Klementieff’s Mantis, Sean Gunn’s Kraglin, and likely the voices of Bradley Cooper for Rocket and Vin Diesel for Groot, are all coming to the movie as well.

As an added bonus it seems the “actors” from Thor: Ragnarok will be back as well: Matt Damon as “Actor Loki,” Sam Neill as “Actor Odin,” and Luke Hemsworth as “Actor Thor.” Joining them in Love and Thunder is a new addition: Melissa McCarthy as “Actor Hela.”

Thanks to all the recent release date changes, it’s not clear when Thor: Love and Thunder will be released, but it’s expected to come out sometime in 2022.
