It’s been some eight years – 8 YEARS – since Rock ‘N Racing Off Road DX first launched to the Xbox world. But now it’s time to take to the dirt tracks once more, shifting off the DX branding as we go, adding in some serious Xbox Series X|S optimisation as it goes.

Rock ‘N Racing Off Road DX is a game that we first reviewed way back in 2015, hoping for some retro nostalgia in the form of Super Spring or Super Off Road. We didn’t get that though, instead left with a single player campaign that was poor.

A new Rock ‘N Racing Off Road experience?

We’re not expecting too much different today with the newly optimised launch of Rock ‘N Racing Off Road on Xbox Series X|S and PC either. Seemingly taking the same game, EnjoyUp Games and Super PowerUp Games look to have injected some 4K visuals and current-gen optimisation the way of gamers. Is that going to be enough to drag this racer to the top of the podium? We doubt it.

If you are new to the scene though and want to know more, this is a single screen racer in which you’ll be left to take it to AI opponents or local multiplayer friends. There’s no online here. But it does promise all the skids, crashes and jumping that you would expect of an off-road racer.

A range of tracks are also present, whilst – as the name suggests – tons of rock n roll music will be included. Why else would this be called Rock ‘N Racing Off Road?

Running an £8.39 price tag, we would have hoped that previous purchases of Rock ‘N Racing Off Road DX would allow for this newly optimised version to be thrust into the hands of players for free. But alas, we need to pay up AGAIN.

If you’re happy with that, crack on, fill your boots at the Xbox Store, playing on Xbox Series X|S or PC as you go. Don’t expect to be racing with this one on Xbox One though – you’ll need to grab the older Rock ‘N Racing Off Road DX for that.
