Grid scale thermal energy storage, AI driven water loss management, and edible protein derived from fermented biomass – Recent deals worth looking at: 

 

Agriculture & Food 

Farmless (2021) is a developer of a biomass fermentation platform using carbon dioxide and hydrogen to create edible protein. 

Farmless raised $5.1M in Seed funding on December 5th via undisclosed investors.  

The funding will be put towards building a pilot brewery in Amsterdam, where Farmless can begin developing its first products to replace meat, dairy and eggs.  

Energy & Power  

Hyme (2021) is a provider of grid-scale thermal energy storage based on molten hydroxide salts, storing up to 700 °C.  

On November 30th, Eliq successfully raised $8.6M in Series A funding. Heartland Advisors, Nordic Makers, and Northeast Ventures Corporation participated in this round.  

This funding will used to continue constructing its pilot plant as well as maintaining the pace of its technology and product development while getting ready for full market entry.  

Materials & Chemicals 

PragmatIC (2010) is a developer of ultra-low-cost flexible integrated circuits, enabling the potential for trillions of smart objects.  

PragmatIC secured $203M in Growth Equity funding on December 7th 

This funding will accelerate PragmatIC’s expansion plans in the UK, including building their third and fourth fabrication lines at the PragmatIC Park facility in Durham. A limited second close for key investors is also in the works, of which an additional investment of £20M is already allocated.  

Resources & Environment 

Carbon Maps (2020) is a provider of a climate strategies platform tracking companies’ carbon footprint, biodiversity impact, water use, and animal welfare data.  

On December 5th, Carbon Maps raised $3.2M in Seed funding from Breega, Samaipata Ventures, Back Market and HCVC.  

This round follows a previous one in February of 2023, as the company continues its efforts in further developing its product, growing its team, and expanding into other EU countries.  

Transportation & Logistics 

Wakeo (2016) is a provider of a SaaS platform for supply chain visibility.  

Wakeo raised $19.4M in Growth Equity funding on December 5th to support international expansion and the execution of its product roadmap. The investment round, led by Statkraft Ventures with participation from Promus Ventures, 360 Capital, 50 Partners, and Techstars, will continue its efforts to facilitate multimodal intercontinental transport flows through leveraging predictive analytics.    

Enabling Technologies 

HULO.ai (2021) is a developer of AI algorithm-driven solutions to tackle water loss and management. 

HULO.ai’s Seed funding round on November 30th raised $800K via Lumo Labs and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  

The spinoff from Westus Research Institute will put the funding towards expanding into new markets, targeting critical regions with water scarcity issues.
