Overwatch 2: Hero Tactics to Try to Reach Your Desired Rank

Overwatch 2: Hero Tactics to Try to Reach Your Desired Rank

Source Node: 1868528

We go over some of the best tactics to use on specific heroes to help you reach your max rank in Overwatch 2.

The second season of Overwatch 2 began more than a month ago, which means there are a couple of weeks left until the third one. In others, you still have time to reach your desired rank as long as you pick some of the hottest heroes in the meta.

Speaking of the current meta, it favors a couple of interesting options. We’ve already made in-depth guides about all Overwatch 2 heroes, so feel free to check them if you want to learn more. That said, this article will point out a few things you should focus on if you decide to play some of the hot options in the meta.

Once Overwatch 2 Season 3 arrives, we will likely see some big balance changes that will disrupt the current meta. However, there is still time to take advantage of it now, so here is what you need to know.

Orisa

At the time of writing this guide, Orisa is one of the best Overwatch 2 tanks in the game. The hero wasn’t that popular in S1 and early S2, but after Doomfirst received the needed changes, Orisa slowly made her way to the top.

One thing that makes the hero so dangerous is her CC ability.  The javelin is impressive in many situations because it can interrupt a lot of abilities. What’s even more impressive is that it has a low cooldown, meaning that Orisa can use it multiple times during a fight.

Another reason why Orisa is a solid option in the current meta is because of how good she is against the likes of Hog and Doomfirst. Roadhog has been a nightmare to play against, but Orisa’s sheer presence is enough to complicate his life. After all, he won’t be able to land his combo that easily. Furthermore, players can cancel the hero’s heal and hook.

The last thing you should remember when playing with Orisa is that the hero deals a lot of damage. Use the fact that you’re really hard to kill to your advantage and try to pressure the enemy’s squishies. One successful wall pin on a target with 200 HP means you can finish it right away.

Roadhog

If Orisa seems boring, you can always try other tanks, including Roadhog. He might not be the most exciting hero in Overwatch 2, but you can’t deny that he is among the best in the game. In fact, he was the go-to option during Season 1 and continues to be a top-tier pick in Season 2.

Roadhog can deal with any hero in the game, even though his matchup against Orisa is troublesome. Fortunately, he has little to no problems against the rest, especially if they can’t stop his healing. Speaking of stopping it, this is one of the first things you should keep an eye on – you have to make sure that the enemy heroes won’t do that.

Of course, Hog players have to land their hook combo all the time if they want to be successful. The fact that the hero can burst any squishy right away makes this one of the best tanks to get the rank you want.

Sojourn

Following the numerous nerfs, Sojourn is finally in a position where we can say that she is balanced. Even though the hero is still one of the top picks among the best in the world, she is definitely weaker than before. Nevertheless, those who can land their secondary fire dominate the meta.

One thing you should avoid while playing with Sojourn in Overwatch 2 is wasting your slide. We’ve seen people doing this countless times, and it almost always ends badly for them.

Sure, you can use your movement ability to chase a target or play aggressively, but you have to make sure that this will be worth it. Sojourn can deal a lot of damage, but the hero is pretty squishy, so every wrong move can fatal. That’s one of the big reasons why some pro Overwatch players will save this ability for when they need to escape.

Torb

Albeit not the leading hero in the meta, Torb has always been one of the best heroes you can use to reach the rank you wish for. Sure, Torb might not be the best against top-tier opponents, but he is one of the best heroes for climbing.

Torb is not that easy to master, but if there is one thing you should focus on, it is your turret. Learning how and where to position it will have a huge impact on your overall success rate. A well-placed Turrent can be annoying, especially if the enemy team does not have a hero who can kill it fast.

Speaking of your turret, besides learning where to place it, you have to change your position all the time. As you can imagine, placing a turret in an awkward position will work initially, but if you do it again, the enemy team will expect it, and you won’t achieve anything.

Besides that, Torb is a strong hero who can tank a lot of damage before dying. The bad news is that he does not have a reliable escape mechanism, so you need to be careful against heroes that like to be really aggressive.

Widowmaker

Widowmaker was not the most popular hero in Overwatch, but Overwatch 2 buffed her a lot, which is why she is among the hottest picks right now. However, not everyone knows how to use the hero’s full potential, which is why people often have problems when playing.

To succeed with Widowmaker, you must try and land the shots you know you can take. This may seem easier said than done, but the idea here is to focus on what you’re good at instead of trying to copy someone else. There is no need to do wild trick shots or to crouch and move left and right when you don’t need to. Sure, those things might help, but they will do more harm than good unless you are good at them.

Wrecking Ball

The last Overwatch 2 hero we’d like to talk about in this article is none other than Wrecking Ball. Even though he may not be the most popular hero among those new to Overwatch, his ability allows you to carry your team. As a result, people who know how to play with him are often really successful.

One of the key things to remember should you decide to play with Ball is that it all comes down to timing. Since he is one of the most mobile heroes in the game, it is easy to move around and use your abilities, but you won’t get any value from them. However, you can easily kill everyone once you combine your initiating skills and damage output with your team.

Another thing you should keep in mind is that Wrecking Ball is one of the best in Overwatch 2 when it comes down to baiting your opponents. You can force a lot of cooldowns by playing aggressively, which is always good. However, keep in mind that you should do everything not to die unless your opponents use tons of abilities. Ball is one of the hardest heroes to bring down, so definitely do everything you can to stay alive.
