The majority of the Apex Legends community believes the OP Nessie Materia hop-up in the Apex Legends x Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth event is ruining the game.

Respawn Entertainment and Square Enix partnered together to bring a monumental crossover event to Apex Legends in celebration of the upcoming release of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth. Not only did the collaboration bring Final Fantasy-inspired cosmetics to the game, but it also introduced Materia to Apex Legends. One of the limited-time hop-ups allows players to summon Nessie to attack their opponents.

Quickly, everyone's love for Nessie morphed into hate.

The Red Materia hop-up allows players to summon Nessie in Apex Legends. The small, glowing orb from Final Fantasy VII is available for a limited-time in the BR Takeover and can be found from ground loot or the event's Cactuar Ticks.

Despite the hype surrounding the Apex Legends x Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth event, many players are tired of dealing with Nessies. Out of all the Materia hop-ups available, Nessie is easily the most OP.

In a new thread on the Apex Legends subreddit, one user stated that the Nessies are ruining the collaboration. "Who thought it was ok to make clairvoyant enemy alert systems, that hunt down anyone within your half of the map and are able to climb literally anywhere," they wrote. "It is absolutely impossible to outplay them so you have to waste your ammo on them."

Indeed, coming across a Nessie in the LTM is a tall task, especially when they attack downed players as well. Sure, Nessies are great when they are on your side, but when you have to worry about their attack and your enemies attack, it makes the game a little less enjoyable.

The top comment on the thread furthered, "They’re definitely a super toxic hop up lol. I think the worst part is that they can thirst/grief you when you’re down or your teammates are down."

Those who are upset with the aimbotting mascots will have to deal with them until the Apex Legends x Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth event concludes on Jan. 30.
