NICOLLET, BLUE EARTH COUNTY SHERIFF’S PEN LETTERS CONCERNING MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION

Nicollet County Sheriff Dave Lange and Blue Earth County Sheriff Jeff Wersal have penned letter expressing concern over the potential legalization of marijuana.  They are concerned with the rapid pace the bills are moving through the legislature that lawmakers may not address some key public safety issues that would arise if marijuana is legalized.  Both cite the lack of instant on-site testing for THC intoxication and fear it could lead to more deaths on roadways if roadside testing is not put in place.  They are concerned, too that the legalization of weed  would hamper the black market.  They both are calling on lawmakers to address Minnesotans’ concerns about the real harms of marijuana and develop a plan to help law enforcement keep our state safe.
