Netflix is going big into anime in 2021, and Yasuke is one of its most anticipated projects. The internationally produced anime brings in talent from all over the world, and on Thursday, the streaming service finally released the show’s first trailer.

The trailer is mostly focused on the background of the show’s titular hero. Yasuke is a legendary Black samurai, and while that’s true in our world, the show is set somewhere else. The trailer quickly makes it clear that its version of feudal Japan is full of warriors who wield magic as well as samurai swords. We get plenty of looks at both the sword fighting and the magic of the world, as well as a few great moments of Yasuke leading armies of his own to save Japan from an unknown threat.

The one thing we don’t get much of a look at in the trailer is mechs, which Netflix’s promotional material keeps teasing as an important part of the show. But there still have to be a few surprises for when it’s actually released.

Yasuke is created by LeSean Thomas (Black Dynamite, The Boondocks) and animated by MAPPA, the studio behind shows like Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan Final Season. The series stars LaKeith Stanfield (Get Out, Atlanta, Sorry to Bother You) in the title role, is directed by Takeshi Koike (Lupin the Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine), and has music produced by acclaimed artist and producer Flying Lotus.

Yasuke is set to debut on Netflix on April 29.
