‘Moto X’ Is A Simple But Fun VR Motocross Game On Quest

Dodge obstacles and perform death-defying jumps in this arcade-style motocross experience available now via the App Lab.

Developer Enver Experience today announced the launch of MotoX on Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 headsets. This fast-paced motocross experience has you taking control of a virtual dirtbike and navigating your way throughout a variety of exotic locations in search of coins to collect and sick jumps to hit.

Available now in beta, MotoX features four unique environments in which to traverse: a vast canyon, remote desert oasis, tropical paradise, and frigid arctic wasteland. Each of these locales features three different levels which can be unlocked by collecting virtual stars scattered throughout each and every race track. You’ll also come across dozens of coins which can be spent on new bikes in the shop. Each bike features its own unique stats that affect everything from speed to control. Speaking of control, let’s talk about the bike mechanics.

Steering is handled using your Touch controllers. Grab hold of your virtual handlebars to avoid obstacles, balance your way across precarious platforms, and perform tricks like “no-handers.” Unsurprisingly, all this high-flying action can have an adverse effect on your stomach. Thankfully, MotoX features several comfort options. This includes a silhouette of a full-faced dirtbike helmet which—while simple—does a surprisingly good job at mitigating motion sickness.

What excites me most about MotoX is its potential as a VR extreme sports game. The core gameplay—while simple—offers an entertaining experience, one that’s unique to the Oculus Quest platform. With several additional months of polish, this VR motocross experience could be one of the more entertaining sports games on Quest. The developer is already teasing several exciting updates on the way, including:

• Improved bike mechanics.
• Additional music tracks.
• New worlds and levels.
• Character customization.
• Leaderboards.
• Target shooting.
• Head to head game mode (play against NPC).
• PvP multiplayer (play with friends).

MotoX is available now for $7.99 on Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 via App Lab and SideQuest. Plans for SteamVR and itch.io releases are currently in the works.
