Size: 6-foot-6, 292 pounds

2022 Stats: 23 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, 3 passes defended, 1 forced fumble

Morris was just a one-year starter, but made a name for himself at Michigan. He is now in the 2023 NFL Draft.

As a three-star prospect, Morris left the state of Florida to sign with Michigan. He didn’t play in his freshman season of 2019. In 2020, he played in one game and registered one tackle. He stepped into more of a reserve role in 2021, totaling 16 tackles, one tackle for loss and 0.5 sacks. For the 2022 season, Morris was a starter and his production jumped to 23 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. His play helped Michigan reach the College Football Playoff.

Following the one good season of production, Morris declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. He is a projected mid-round pick.

Mike Morris Strengths

Morris is a huge edge prospect in this class, as he stands at 6-foot-6 and 292 pounds. This size gives him great strength for the position, which showed up on tape. His frame extends to his arms as well, as he has really good arm length for an edge prospect as well.

His ability as a run defender will outweigh his pass-rushing early in his career. Morris is able to take on blocks and set the edge as a run defender. He shows the ability to shed blocks and then go after the ball carrier. While he doesn’t have a lot of tackles on the stat sheet, he is a capable tackler.

He has some versatility that other prospects don’t have. Morris can play on the edge in multiple fronts, but could also be moved inside. He could be used on the edge on running plays and then rush from the interior on passing downs.

Mike Morris Weaknesses

Morris is not a great athlete for an edge rusher. He doesn’t get off at the snap of the ball quickly, then shows just decent speed and agility. To go with that, he doesn’t have the flexibility to bend around the edge. The lack of athleticism may mean he needs to move inside at the next level.

To be a more impactful pass rusher, Morris needs to add more pass rushing moves and be better with his hands. He wins with some effort and power, but could be a way better hand-fighter. Morris also could have a better pass-rushing plan to get after the quarterback and have better counters when his initial rush is stopped.

His pad level can oftentimes get too high. When this happens he loses his power and can be moved in the running game and also stalled as a pass rusher. He needs to keep his pad level low and explode into blocks in order to be more disruptive.
